Spring Thaw Party at the Museum
by Pinedale Online!
March 8, 2007
Mike Powell, a member of the American Mountain Men, was the guest speaker at the Museum of the Mountain Man's annual "Spring Thaw Party" on Thursday evening in Pinedale. He gave a talk on 'Possibles' bags, a "man's purse" used to carry accoutrements by the trappers and traders of the early 1800s who trapped beaver in our Upper Green River Valley during the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade era. The talk was inspired by a new Possibles Bag display on loan to the Museum by Jim and Jennifer Baughman. The American Mountain Men return to Pinedale in May for Living History Days at the Museum and again in July for Green River Rendezvous Days in Pinedale.
In the second photo, Tim Thompson, Pinedale Mayor Steve Smith, Patti Ellis and Fred Pape socialize during the Museum of the Mountain Man's "Spring Thaw Party" on Thursday night. Thompson is a member of the Sublette County Museum Board. Ellis and Pape are members of the Sublette County Historical Society Board of Directors, the parent organization of the Museum of the Mountain Man. The Museum opens for the season on May 1st.
