16 new turning lanes between Rock Springs and the Jonah Field March 28, 2007 The Casper-Star Tribune had an article today (March 28) about transportation and road issues on Hwy 191 and I-80 due to huge increases in traffic over the past few years. The article, “A big, long haul” by Jeff Gearino, says that Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) counts indicate that Highway 191 (between Rock Springs and the Jonah Field) gets around 3,000 vehicles per day, most of them trucks. The article goes on to say that WYDOT has plans to install 16 new passing lanes on Hwy 191 over the next year, eight in the northbound lane and 8 in the southbound lane, situated every 5-6 minutes along the route to allow motorists to get around the steady stream of trucks. |
