WY Teachers invited to WGFD Educator's Camp
by Wyoming Game & Fish
April 16, 2007
The Wind River Mountains stretch up right behind you, an engaging outdoor skills activity lies right in front of you and the result is Wyoming's children will benefit. That's the scene at the educator's camp the Wyoming Game and Fish Department hosts each summer.
Teachers and youth leaders interested in the outdoors are invited to the June 25-29 camp at the Trail Lake Conservation Facility southeast of Dubois. Educators are provided the opportunity to participate in shooting sports, fishing, canoeing, outdoor survival and many more activities and related conservation education topics, which stress the ethical use of the outdoors.
The event is officially called WILD About OREO Educator's Camp to highlight the two outdoor curriculums featured at the camp. The Project WILD, or Wildlife in Learning Development curriculum, encourages informed, responsible environmental and outdoor behavior by teaching students "how to think" compared to "what to think." OREO or Outdoor Recreation Education Opportunities was developed by the Game and Fish in 1995 to help educators give youth hands-on outdoor experiences that can be enjoyed over a lifetime.
Enrollment costs $100, which includes recertification credit. Teachers are also eligible for two hours of University of Wyoming credit for an additional $80. Applications for the camp must be received by the Game and Fish at 5400 Bishop Blvd., Cheyenne, WY 82006 by 5 p.m. April 30. Applications are available at the Game and Fish offices, calling (800) 842-1934 and at the Game and Fish web site http://gf.state.wy.us.
