The National Weather Service out of Riverton has posted more information online about the storm system that impacted Western and Central Wyoming on Wednesday and Thursday, June 6-7. “Strong thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon produced heavy rainfall and hail ahead of the low pressure system and associated cold front, especially in the Wind River Basin. The northerly flow was creating upslope conditions early Thursday on the north side of both the Owl Creek and Wind River Mountains enhancing precipitation in these areas.”

The storm brought up to a foot of snow in places. Gusty winds reached greater than hurricane force at the Buffalo Airport Thursday morning, with a peak gust of 77 mph. Several places recorded over 2 inches of rainfall, including the Willow Creek SnoTel in Lincoln County, south of the Upper Green River Valley. Sublette County stations reported less than an inch of rain. The most snow that was reported was 13” in Big Horn County. Sublette County stations reported ½ to 8” of new snow. Winds in Sublette County were recorded from 41-48 mph.
