The Wyoming Wool Growers Association is none too pleased with the wolf deal Governor Dave Freudenthal negotiated with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. In a statement released by WWGA executive Bryce Reece, the organization expressed extreme disappointment in Freudenthal's decision.
Freudenthal "has agreed to acquiesce and capitulate to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as regards management of wolves in Wyoming."
The statement continued: "We disagree with the decision to abandon the owners of the approximately one-half million acres of private land that the SFWS has demanded be included as wolf habitat for the non-native Canadian wolves foisted upon the state by the Clinton Administration.
"In its rush to assume ownership and control of these verminous predators, both the Wyoming legislature and the Governor have turned their backs on many of Wyoming’s taxpaying citizens.
"While we disagree with this decision, we will now look to both the Governor and the legislature to bring forward state funds to adequately and completely compensate livestock and land owners who suffer loss and damages to wolves in Wyoming that apparently are now destined to become property of the state.
