In response to a recently negotiated deal with Wyoming officials, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has reopened the public comment period on the proposal to designate a distinct population segment of gray wolves in the Northern Rockies, and to remove this population from Endangered Species Act protections. The new proposal would include wolves in northwestern Wyoming, outside the national parks, in delisting.

Comments on the updated proposal will be accepted until Aug. 6. In addition, a public hearing on the proposal will be held July 17 at the Cody Auditorium, 1240 Beck Avenue in Cody. FWS will first host an open house from 4:30-5:30, with the public hearing to be held 5:30-8:30 p.m.
