New fire up Granite Creek
Burning in the Gros Ventre Wilderness
July 18, 2007
The new smoke column visible to the northwest of Pinedale Thursday evening is a new fire reported today. There have been no official releases of information about this fire as of the time of this report, but we can pass on what little preliminary information we have so far. This information will be updated as official reports become available.
Preliminary reports place the fire in the Gros Ventre Wilderness area of the Granite Creek drainage, on the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Granite Creek flows into the Hoback River in the Hoback Canyon, about halfway between Pinedale and Jackson, Wyoming. The exact location or proximity to Granite Hot Springs is not known at this time.
The smoke column was visible from as far away as Big Piney Thursday evening.
