Sublette County is joining the U.S. Forest Service in implementing partial fire restrictions due to extreme fire danger in the county. The County Commissioners passed the Resolution on Tuesday, July 3rd.
The resolution restricts the use of open fires and incendiary devices.
- The open burning of fires in Sublette County is banned.
- Discharge of fireworks and all outdoor fires is prohibited in unimproved areas. (Editor's Note: There is some confusion about what is allowed for fireworks and we are attempting to get clarification on this point. The wording of Resolution No. 07-995C seems to contradict the 1988 complete ban of fireworks in the county, and now appears to allow the discharge of fireworks in improved areas, which might lead people to believe they are ok in parking lots, driveways or campgrounds. We don't think this is what was intended, so we are checking this point out.)
Exceptions to the open burning include trash fires between the hours of 6 pm and 8 am, inside containers that have spark arresters and located within a cleared area 10 feet in radius. Campfires within an established fire ring in an established campground are permitted. Charcoal fires within enclosed grills are permitted. Acetylene cutting torches or electric arc welders in cleared areas 10 feet in radius are permitted, as are propane or open fire branding activities in these areas.
Penalty for violations are a fine not to exceed $100.00 or imprisonment in the Sublette County Jail for not more than 30 days, or both.
