The Museum of the Mountain Man is already preparing for 2008 Rendezvous and working on their second edition of their new Rocky Mountain Fur Trade Journal.
The deadline for articles to be submitted for consideration for the 2008 Journal is January 2, 2008.
The Rocky Mountain Fur Trade Journal is an academic, peer-reviewed publication focusing on new perspectives on the Rocky Mountain fur trade era of 1824 to 1840. The annual journal selects up to ten papers for publication each year. Submissions are welcome from professional, non-professional and student writers. Each author who has his/her work selected to be published is given a $1,000 cash award.
Editor's Note: Readers, please pass the word about this new publication to anyone you know that you think might be interested in writing an aritcle for the 2008 edition! We'd love to see this new journal the Museum of the Mountain Man is doing become a premier publication and academic reference for expanding the knowledge base about the fur trade of the Rocky Mountains during the era of the mountian man. All writers are welcome, including graduate students, hobby historians, mountain man buckskinners, and professional researchers. All articles must pass high standards for peer review on historical accuracy, however writers don't have to be previously published to have their articles considered or accepted. This is a great opportunity for anyone who has new information they feel can add to the current knowledge base about the era of the mountain man. The $1000 award is a great incentive to submit an article too.
The 2007 Rocky Mountain Fur Trade Journal is available for sale on the Museum of the Mountain Man's website in their Trading Post for $25.00. (T-shirts from the Museum's 2007 Rocky Mountain Fur Trade Forum are also still available.) All money from these purchases go to support the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale.
