The Granite Fire, burning on the Bridger-Teton National Forest has not grown much over the past several days due to higher humidity’s and lower temperatures. This 1500 acre lightning-caused fire began on July 19th approximately 22-miles northeast of Hoback Junction and resulted in a temporary closure order for much of the Granite Creek drainage.

Forest officials have decided to allow visitors to reenter the Granite Creek Campground beginning Friday August 3, 2007. While the closure order remains in effect for the Granite Creek area, overnight recreation will be permitted only within the Granite Creek campground until further notice. Forest officials allowed recreationists to utilize a portion of the Granite Creek drainage earlier in the week for daytime activities between the hours of 10:00am and 8:00pm. “The permissions to utilize the Granite area may change if fire activity picks up again,” said Jackson District Ranger Dale Deiter.

Firefighters will continue to monitor the Granite Fire so officials can make appropriate changes to the restrictions within the drainage as necessary, to provide for firefighter and public safety. For more information, visit www.inciweb.org.
