Annual Meeting & Judicial Conference
by Wyoming State Bar
September 5, 2007

The Wyoming State Bar today announced that it will be hosting its 2007 Annual Meeting & Judicial Conference at the Center for the Arts in Jackson, September 11 – 14, 2007. The meeting is a combined gathering of the Wyoming State Bar and the Wyoming Judiciary. Over 300 attorneys and judges are expected to be in attendance.

“This is an opportunity for Wyoming’s lawyers and judges to meet in a great location to learn, conduct business, and network Wyoming-style,” said Joseph Bluemel, President of the Wyoming State Bar.

This year’s Annual Meeting will offer three full days of quality educational programs for Wyoming lawyers. Speakers for the week will include nationally known speakers such as Sharon D. Nelson and John W. Simek. Nelson and Simek co-authored The Electronic Evidence and Discovery Handbook, and their articles have appeared in prestigious publications throughout the country. Also presenting will be Professor Samuel D. Hodge, a skilled litigator who chairs the Department of Legal Studies at Temple University. Hodge will be offering a program called “Anatomy for Lawyers,” at which Wyoming lawyers will learn how to handle back, shoulder, hand and knee injury cases effectively.

Among the local attorneys that will be speaking are Representative Keith Gingery, Hon. Timothy C. Day, Hon. Nancy J Guthrie, and Andrea Richard.

The Bar is also honored to have the Honorable M. Margaret McKeown as the keynote speaker at its Judicial Luncheon, which will be held on Wednesday, September 12th. Judge McKeown, originally from Wyoming, was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit by President Clinton and was confirmed by the United States Senate in 1998.

The Wyoming State Bar will also be announcing the winners of several leadership awards at this year’s Leadership Luncheon held on Thursday, September 13th. Bluemel added, “At this luncheon we really see what lawyers and judges do during their free time, out of the headlines, in their own communities to make Wyoming such a great place to live. This shows why lawyers and judges are community leaders.”

Thursday evening, Wyoming lawyers and guests will enjoy a keynote speech presented by Neal Katyal, a Georgetown University Law School professor. Katyal recently won Hamdan v. Rumsfeld in the United States Supreme Court, a case that challenged the policy of military trials at Guantanamo Bay Naval Station in Cuba.
