BTNF plans fall slash pile burning

Over the next several weeks the Greys River and Kemmerer Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest plan to burn approximately a total of 201-acres of hand piles created from fuels reduction projects.
Slash piles will be ignited in areas near: Star Valley Ranch (East of Thayne, WY), Cottonwood Lake Campground (East of Smoot, WY), Murphy Creek., Meadows Guard Station, Moose Flat, Lynx Creek (Greys River), Scaler Guard Station (LaBarge area), Kelley Guard Station and Fontenelle Basin.
These piles were created as the result of hazardous fuels reduction projects designed to provide greater defensible space in the wildland urban interface lands and for Forest Service Administration Sites.
Residents in the area can expect to see smoke from pile burning operations after the first snows start to fall on the valley floor. Fire management personnel require having snow or wet conditions before igniting piles to provide greater security from fire creeping away from ignited piles and to minimize heat produced by piles and effects to trees remaining in fuels treatment areas.
