Free Access Hunting on Private Land
October 14, 2007
A Hunter Management Area (HMA) is a parcel of land where the Wyoming Game & Fish Department facilitates management of hunters in return for free public access to hunt. The area may refer solely to private lands or a combination of private, state trust land and federal land within ranch boundaries. Hunters must obtain written permission to hunt on these areas. The hunter may obtain permission by following the instructions listed in the Check Station Dates & Times. The hunter pays no fee for receiving permission for access.
In Sublette County, HMAs are available for ranches around Big Piney and in the Chimney Butte area east of Boulder. Click on this link for general information about 2007 Hunter Management Areas.
