Equalize funding between rich counties (like Sublette County) and mineral poor counties October 21, 2007 According to a news story that appeared in the online Casper Star-Tribune on Saturday, October 20, Governor Dave Freudenthal wants a plan to redistribute money richer counties in the state receive from state severance tax or other revenue (such as mineral royalties in Sublette County) and redistribute it to poorer cities, towns and counties in the state that don’t have those revenue resources. He would like the plan to have more flexibility that the state’s model for financing public schools (which has taken money away from the school districts in Sublette County). The Governor made the comments during his weekly news conference last Wednesday. |
