Shriver Gravel Pit expansion proposed
Pinedale BLM Seeks Public Comment
by Bureau of Land Management
October 3, 2007
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking public comment on a proposal by the Shriver Sand and Gravel Co. of Pinedale to expand its existing Shriver Hay Gulch sand and gravel pit from 10 acres to 40 acres. This proposed expansion is located on a 40-acre parcel of land where the surface is owned by the Shriver Sand and Gravel Co. but the mineral rights are reserved and administered by the BLM.
The mining permit area for the mining of sand and gravel is located in the SWSE of Section 20, T34N, R109W, in Sublette County. The area is located 2 miles northwest of the Town of Pinedale and one and one-half miles east of Ehman Lane (County Road 144). The Pinedale Field Office is seeking comments by Oct.25, 2007 for the proposed expansion.
The sand and gravel mining began in 1975 and is scheduled to continue until 2014. The land will be returned to grazing after mining. The original permit was approved for 10 acres with an additional 30 acres of expansion. An Environmental Assessment will be prepared to assess the environmental impacts to this area of disturbance and the surrounding area. The expansion of this sand and gravel pit will make available the necessary building materials to sustain the current demands and needs of the current oil and gas production.
