The new Sublette County rig count numbers from October 1st, 2007 show a 13% decline in the number of rigs drilling from last year, according to data from Drilling Records Inc. There are currently about 49 rigs drilling inside the county limits, compared to about 56 this time last year, which was also an all-time high for the county. The rig count has been increasing gradually over the past few months. Throughout the first half of 2007, the count was about 20% behind 2006 levels.
About 29 of these rigs are operating in the Pinedale Anticline, and about 15 are operating in the Jonah Field. There are an additional foour rigs operating outside of these field boundaries throughout the county. The biggest decrease over the past year has occurred in the Jonah Field, where there were about 23 rigs drilling in October of 2006. The number of rigs in the Pinedale Anticline has actually increased from about 26 to 29 over the past year - although some rigs were likely moved from the Jonah to the Anticline.
By comparison, the Baker-Hughes state-wide rig count shows 69 rigs drilling in Wyoming for October of 2007. If accurate, this would mean that 71% of the rigs drilling in the state are currently located in Sublette County.
