Traffic Changes Ahead on I-80

(Rock Springs) - Beginning the week of Oct. 15, motorists traveling through the Rock Springs Marginal Dewar Drive/Pilot Butte Project, will find several traffic changes to facilitate wrapping up work for the construction season.
At the Dewar Drive end of the project, there will be major traffic changes as the off ramp location for eastbound Exit 102 is moved further to the west. Clint Lockman, resident engineer for the Wyoming Department of Transportation said, "Motorists will need to pay close attention to the signs, as there will be major changes to the ramp."
At College Drive, the eastbound off ramp has been posted at 15 M.P.H. (Miles Per Hour) with a sharp curve. Motorists are urged to use the deceleration lane to lower their speed. The eastbound on ramp traffic also has tight curves, so slower speeds are required.
At Pilot Butte, the cross road and ramps are starting to take shape as the placement of gravel continues. Weather permitting, beginning Thursday, Oct. 18, concrete will be placed on the cross road. Motorists can expect delays with one way traffic under the control of flaggers.
Along mainline Interstate 80, crews will be completing grading work to prepare for pouring concrete to fill in the gaps between the mainline and the ramps at College Drive and Dewar Drive. Traffic will be shifted to temporary ramps while the ramps are poured.
WYDOT and the prime contractor, Upper Plains Contracting, Inc. urges motorists to slow down, be cautious and observe road signs while driving through construction project. Construction vehicles are entering and leaving mainline I-80 throughout the project, so motorists should be prepared for traffic speed changes as slower traffic exits and enters the interstate.
