An old friend to Wyoming hay producers and buyers has a new name and a new home.
The Wyoming Hay Hotline, which has existed for nearly 15 years via 1-800 phone number and on the web at www.uwyo.edu/ces/haylist recently moved to www.wyohaylist.com.
The Web site, a partnership between the Wyoming Business Council’s Agribusiness Division and the University of Wyoming’s College of Agriculture, offers listings for Wyoming producers trying to sell hay, as well as buyers requesting hay and trucking companies available to haul product.
“This is a free opportunity for Wyoming producers to advertise their hay all over the world,” said Scott Keith, Wyoming Business Council Livestock and Forage Program Manager. “They can promote their hay without having to pay for advertising or worrying about minimum amounts of product.”
Sellers of Wyoming hay can list their name, address and contact information on a form available on the site or by calling Kathy Parsons at the University of Wyoming at 307-754-2223. The online form offers fields to classify the hay; offers forage analysis information and comments on the quality of the hay. There will be no pricing information on the seller’s portion of the site, although there is a link to the United States Department of Agriculture’s market reports which has hay pricing information.
Buyers have the opportunity to post listings related to their needs and trucking companies can also list their services.
“This year with the hay conditions being what they are, some areas of the state have an adequate supply of hay available for sale while other areas hay is short. I want to encourage both buyers and sellers to utilize this service.”
