Happy Birthday KPIN! Ten years ago, Bob and Karen Rule brought KPIN radio to Pinedale and Sublette County. Rule, a veteran in the radio industry, had his roots on the other side of the state in Cheyenne. KPIN 101.1 FM started out with humble beginnings in an unheated room in the Pine Creek Inn Motel in Pinedale after local residents lobbied hard to convince him to start a station in our community. The studio later moved to the Knotty Pine Plaza (Summit Building) and has been operating out of there every since.
KPIN went on the air at 11:58PM on December 16, 1997. Many people have contributed over the years to help make the station possible and help out, but it is still largely a one-man show, with Bob wearing the hats of manager, news director, salesman, ad writer, engineer, receptionist and reporter. KPIN recently upgraded to a new system with 4000 watts effective radiated power. “I wanted KPIN to be ‘Sublette County's Radio Station’" and not just ‘Pinedale's Radio Station’," Rule said.
