A strong winter storm will impact the majority of Wyoming today bringing heavy snow across southern Wyoming through early Saturday afternoon. Snowfall will spread north through the morning hours Friday. Snow, heavy at times, is expected Friday evening through Saturday morning along with gusty northeast winds and areas of blowing snow before the system moves out of the area Saturday. Accumulations of 5 to 8 inches are expected. Strong winds are anticipated Friday evening which may cause whiteout conditions.

The heavy snowfall and strong winds will impact Interstate 80 and Highways 28 and 191 through Sweetwater County creating hazardous driving conditions. South Pass is expected to get snow accumulations of 12 to 16 inches with strong winds and whiteout conditions. The Wind River Mountains are expected to get 6 to 9 inches of snowfall.

Note: White Pine Ski Area is reporting 12-15 inches total snow depth with 3” new over the past 24 hours, as of Friday morning. They hope to open Saturday, December 8th for their ski and snow sport season.
