Killing trees in Wyoming, Colorado and Front Range January 15, 2008 The Denver Post put up an article this morning describing the seriousness of the pine beetle infestation that is spreading throughout Wyoming and Colorado. New reports state that pine beetles are on track to kill all of Colorado’s large-diameter lodgepole pine forests in 3 to 5 years. Additionally, Wyoming is also experiencing an epidemic in the Bridger-Teton National Forest in northwest Wyoming and in the Black Hills of northeast Wyoming. The statewide figures are being called a “catastrophic event” for Colorado that will have huge impacts on wildlife habitat, watersheds and everything that is dependent on lodgepole pine forests. The infestation has significantly increased the danger of wildfires due to the dead trees. |
