As of Friday, January 4, the best Nordic skiing locally remains at upper Skyline Drive to Elkhart Park. It was groomed - including a double track set - today (Friday) with the PistenBully. The parking area has been moved one mile down Skyline to the end of the plowed road thus lengthening the trip to Elkhart to five miles.

The meadow and the Tree Loop at Upper Surveyor Park (White Pine) are groomed and the skiing is fair to good for both skating and touring with some obstacles showing. No classic track has been set. More snow is needed before grooming begins on the remaining trails here.

All other trails on Skyline from Lower Surveyor to Kelly Park and the Nordic building are either not groomed or in fair to poor condition due to thin snow and a continuing problem of wheeled motor vehicles attempting to travel on the groomed trails. Touring is marginal and skating should not even be attempted on this portion of the trail system until we get more snow.

The paved bike path to the CCC Ponds was groomed for the first time this week. Snow cover is thin in spots and skating is not recommended.

Conditions on all trails are certain to change with this weekend’s predicted storm.
