Upper Skyline Drive to Elkhart was groomed for the last time a week ago. It can still be skied but many sections have blown in from this week’s wind. Nearly all of the trail system along Skyline is being groomed regularly though the wind is changing trail conditions daily.

The best Nordic skiing locally is now in Surveyor Park at White Pine. All trails here are groomed and in good condition on most days. Flatline and Heart Attack were groomed for the first time this week.

Kelly Park and the Old Road Trail are groomed with thin snow cover in spots. The tie-in from lower Surveyor down to Kelly Park still needs more snow before we can begin grooming. The tie-in trail from Kelly Park to Halfmoon Overlook is groomed, but beware of exposed sagebrush stubs on the downhill.

The bike path to the CCC Ponds is groomed to the warming hut. The trail system beyond here is a mess from wheeled vehicle travel throughout Stewart Flat. Until we get enough snow to build road barricades, this area is mostly a lost cause for skiers. Our continued future trail maintenance here will obviously require a change in motorized travel management by the Forest Service. We are looking into grooming an alternate site near town to replace the skiing opportunities impacted this year at the CCC Ponds.
