One wolf killed Friday

One Sublette County cattleman who is busy calving shot a lone wolf in his calving pasture Friday night. The ranch has been the location of repeated wolf problems. The location of the wolf kill was within the predator management area. It is believed this was the first wolf shot since wolves were removed from protections of the Endangered Species Act earlier in the day on Friday.
The Sublette County Predator Management Board had been in contact with the Cora-area rancher earlier in the day, and had requested USDA Wildlife Services attempt to resolve the wolf conflict with lethal control. The rancher was able to succeed in killing the wolf before a wolf control specialist arrived the next morning. There was no evidence that additional wolves were present, according to Wildlife Services.
Livestock producers with wolf conflicts in the predator status area of Sublette County are urged to contact predator board members or USDA Wildlife Services to receive assistance. The local board has contract with Wildlife Services to handle all wolf conflicts in the predator area of the county.
The Sublette County Commission has generously agreed to fund wolf control in the predator area, while the Wyoming Game and Fish Department is responsible for control in the trophy game area. Wildlife Services also controls wolves under an agreement with WG&F in the trophy game area.
