Air Quality - Ozone Forum May 13th in Pinedale
Panel discussion on Sublette County air quality and health effects of high ozone levels
by CLOUD (Citizens Learning about Ozone’s Unhealthy Destruction)
April 28, 2008

Concerned over hazy skies, limited vistas, WY DEQ ozone alerts, deteriorating air quality and potential health damage, Sublette County residents have joined together to investigate and inform themselves and their neighbors on the health impacts of poor air.

Members of CLOUD (Citizens Learning about Ozone’s Unhealthy Destruction) represent all walks of life: bankers, realtors, teachers, retirees, young moms, retail merchants, government employees, hospitality workers, and business owners. Though a diverse group, members have an identical concern, to determine what is degrading the atmosphere of Sublette County and what they can do about it.

CLOUD is hosting a Public Meeting on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Pinedale High School Auditorium in Pinedale, Wyoming.

A panel of four independent experts will be the guest speakers:
Dr. Theo Colborn, Environmental Health Specialist
Jeremy Nichols, Pollution Reduction Specialist
Jill Morrison, Power River Basin Council Representative
Mark Sullivan, Environmental Attorney

The panel will address the public on the effects of ozone and environmental pollutants on human health and explain how local residents can have a voice in the wellbeing of their community.

"This is truly a grass- roots community effort," said CLOUD volunteer Jocelyn Moore. "There is no organized group behind this, just a collective of concerned citizens who live here. It started as just a handful of people, and the group is ever-growing. There are approximately 20 people who have been attending the CLOUD meetings, with many more who have indicated support for the forum," she said.

"Our purpose for doing the forum is to bring in our own hand-picked independent experts who have no ties to the BLM, the gas industry, state government or the regulatory authorities. We wanted people who wouldn't have a personal agenda or vested interest in what is happening here and can give answers to our questions without doubts about possible bias for or against gas development taking place here. This meeting is intended to be informational, educational and non-confrontational."

Moderated by Dr. Tom Johnston, Sublette County Health Officer, the panel will discuss air-borne pollutants, health effects of ozone and solutions for local communities wanting to maintain and improve the physical condition of their air. A question and answer session will follow. The panel discussions and public comments will be broadcast live on KPIN 101.1 FM radio.

There will be a reception beginning at 6:00 pm with the panel presentations beginning at 6:30 pm.

All expenses for speakers and community outreach are being paid by donations from CLOUD members and other interested residents of Sublette County. Anyone wishing to help sponsor the live radio broadcast for this forum may contact Dawn at 307-360-7689 or 307-276-5699 for more information.
