Focus Groups to target afterschool issues in Pinedale, May 1

Linda Barton, Executive Director of the Wyoming Afterschool Alliance (WAA), will facilitate afterschool/outside school focus groups in Pinedale, Thursday, May 1, to obtain community input to address afterschool/outside school programming for children in the Pinedale area.
According to Laurie Latta, Sublette Community Partnership coordinator, who is organizing the program, “we have collected statistical information from parents, and the need for afterschool programming is obvious, but we have not talked to all community stakeholders to collaborate on a long term resolution to this concern. Linda’s focus groups, and a town meeting scheduled later in the month of May, will be designed to seek solutions to what has been an issue for many years for working families.”
The nine focus groups will represent parents, teachers, school administrators, school board members, the business community, county and city government leaders, early child care providers, local and state agencies, and senior citizens. Each group will meet individually for approximately one hour. The results of the focus groups’ discussion will be disseminated at the town meeting.
The Wyoming Afterschool Alliance’s mission is to provide all Wyoming children with access to afterschool/outside school programs by 2010. The Alliance is funded by a grant from the C.S. Mott Foundation through the Wyoming Community Foundation. The grant was matched by the Department of Education, the Homer A. and Mildred S. Scott Foundation, Parent Education Network and Lights on in Lander and the Wyoming Education Association.
