April 25, 2008
The Bridger-Teton National Forest announces that Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl posters are on display from April 18 through May 9, 2008 in the Lovatt Room of the Sublette County Library.
The artwork was created by area elementary students last fall for the Smokey Bear Woodsy Owl Poster Contest sponsored by the Sage and Snow Garden Club and the US Forest Service. The posters depict Smokey Bear and his fire prevention message “Only You Can Prevent Wildfires” or Woodsy Owl with his “Lend a Hand, Care for the Land” slogan.
The posters are part of a nationwide contest to bring awareness to responsible use and care of our natural resources. Michelle Helm, Vice President of the Sage and Snow Garden Club said, “We’re proud to sponsor this event; it’s a great way to bring attention to and help celebrate Earth Day.”
Three posters, one from each grade, were chosen and forwarded on to the state level for further judging. Each of these winners will receive a $50.00 savings bond from the Sage and Snow Garden Club. Posters were submitted by students from Pinedale, Big Piney, and LaBarge Elementary schools.
“I hope everyone gets a chance to stop by the library and see the posters. The kids did a really great job,” said Helm.
