by Wyoming Game and Fish Department
April 11, 2008
Reported Wolf Kills One male wolf was reported taken in the Predatory Animal area near Daniel on March 30. One female wolf was reported taken in the Predatory Animal area near Fisherman Creek on April 2. Two wolves, one male and one female, were taken in the Predatory Animal area in the southern Wind River mountains on April 3. One male wolf was taken in the Predatory Animal area in the Bondurant area on April 6. Depredation Investigations USDA Wildlife Services confirmed two cattle depredations on a ranch in the Pinedale area. Though the ranch is in the Predatory Animal area, it is close to the boundary of the Trophy Game area. The wolves believed to be responsible for the cattle depredations were crossing back and forth across the boundary. The department authorized USDA Wildlife Services to take three wolves in the Trophy Game area, if necessary. On April 7, USDA Wildlife Services lethally removed four wolves, all in the Predatory Animal area. Information and Education The department’s information and education staff answered numerous calls from the media and public this week. Most callers asked about the number of wolves killed in the Predatory Animal area this week, as well as pending lawsuits and a variety of questions about Wyoming’s wolf management plan. I&E staff is also preparing articles on wolf management for the May issues of Wyoming Wildlife Magazine and Wyoming Wildlife News. I&E staff also began posting weekly updates on the department’s website regarding wolf activity in Wyoming. Other The department interviewed applicants for a new wolf coordinator position to oversee the department’s wolf management program.
