JIO presents $50,000 to Museum of the Mountain Man
For display on prehistoric artifact from Jonah Field
by Bureau of Land Management
May 6, 2008
(Pinedale) Ted Rentmeister, Jonah Interagency Office (JIO) project manager, presented the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale, Wyo. with a letter approving their project application worth $50,000 at the museum’s annual opening on May 1, 2008.
The money will be used to educate the public about prehistoric and/or historic artifacts found in the Jonah Field and to display them in a user friendly way. The project will entail building/purchasing one permanent display case and building/purchasing a traveling exhibit.
“I think this project is very important,” said Sam Drucker, BLM archaeologist and paleontologist. “It will be great for the people of Sublette County to have the opportunity to learn about the kinds of artifacts that are coming out of Sublette County. I think the exhibits will provide an excellent way for students, companies, and everyone else to learn about the amazing history we have here.” The JIO provides overall management of on-site monitoring and off-site mitigation activities, one of which is cultural/historic mitigation. The off-site mitigation goal of the JIO for cultural/historic mitigation is to investigate and gather archaeological or paleontological data from the project area to provide an integrated, holistic, and meaningful view of the archaeology or paleontology of the Upper Green River Basin.
For more information, please contact Ted Rentmeister at (307) 367-5363, or visit the Pinedale Field Office.
