Storms bring much-needed rain to Wyoming

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, precipitation over the past five to six days over central and western Wyoming has brought as much as seven inches of rain. Below are storm rainfall totals from Wednesday, May 21 through 6:00 AM on Tuesday, May 27.

Wettest May in history for Lander; 2nd wettest May in history for Riverton
One of the wettest periods in Fremont County history brought tremendous amounts of precipitation across the area since last Wednesday. The Lander airport received 4.77 inches of total rain from the 6 day storm with 4.50 inches in downtown Lander.
The Riverton airport received 4.37 inches of rain during the 6 day period with 3.98 inches at the official co-op site on the east side of Riverton.
Total rainfall so far for the month in Lander stands at 6.25 inches making this the wettest May since records began in 1892. The old record was 6.06 inches set in 1924. The 6.25 inches in Lander is also the 4th wettest month of all-time.
In Riverton, the official rainfall through Tuesday morning stands at 4.60 inches making it the second wettest May since records began in 1907. The wettest May was 6.22 inches in 1921. The 4.60 inches in Riverton is also the 6th wettest month of all-time.
