Bridger-Teton amends Forest Plan for pronghorn corridor

According to a media release from the Forest Service, Bridger-Teton Forest Supervisor Kniffy Hamilton signed an amendment to the Bridger-Teton National Forest Plan regarding pronghorn migration on May 31, 2008. The amendment to the Forest Plan designates a Pronghorn Migration Corridor on the Forest. Approximately 19,400 emails were received in support of the amendment.
The purpose of the corridor designation is to ensure that all projects, activities, and infrastructure within this specified corridor will allow continued successful movement of pronghorn through the Bridger-Teton National Forest. This amendment applies only to Forest Service lands.
Some groups were concerned that the proposal could negatively affect livestock operations. However, the Bridger-Teton assured them that because current grazing operations coexist with the successful pronghorn movement; these operations will not be affected by this amendment. The only change will be that future grazing operations will need to be designated to allow successful pronghorn travel paths.
Several interpretive signs will be placed along the path to inform the public about pronghorn movement patterns. One sign will be placed on the Forest at the Red Hills Campground in the Gros Ventre area. Other signs will be installed along the Forest near Pinedale.
