Sailor of the Year Award ~ Jason Essington
by Leslie Rozier
August 17, 2008
Despite Jason Essington’s incredible organization of the Pinedale Boat Club’s annual Fremont Lake Regatta, he failed to mention that he was honored this year as the first recipient of the Fremont Lake Yacht Club’s Sailor of the Year Award. Jason’s love of sailing (ever notice his license plate?) and his commitment to his community to sustain the sailing program has not gone unnoticed by his fellow sailors.
Jed Duke was also honored with the Friend of Sailing Award that honors individuals who may or may not be sailors but are committed to the sport. Jed has spent many hours helping Jason and other sailors with the daunting tasks of keeping the programs going.
Lastly, Dick and Peggy Krebill were honored with a Lifetime Membership to the Fremont Lake Yacht Club for their commitment to the fine art of sailing. "They’re harder than hell to beat!" complained one captain with a smile. The primary goal of the loosely organized yacht club is not to win, but to have fun. If you see a sail boat getting ready to leave the dock, do not hesitate to hitch a ride or ask for help in learning the skills needed for sailing.
There are many days left before the boats leave the water for the winter and the 39th Fremont Lake Regatta is less than a year away...
