Temporary Closure lifted for the New Fork Lakes area
by Bridger-Teton National Forest
August 11, 2008

The Bridger-Teton National Forest has lifted a temporary area closure in the area surrounding the New Fork Lakes fire. The New Fork Lakes fire was discovered on July 29 approximately 19 miles north of Pinedale, Wyoming. Fire investigators determined that the blaze was caused by a campfire.

A Type 2 incident management team was called in to assist firefighting efforts. The fire burned approximately 11,960 acres in and around the Bridger Wilderness in areas where there were beetle killed trees.

All roads and trails have been reopened. The area closure included most of the southern and eastern shores of New Fork Lakes, and the north, east, and south shore of Willow Lake, and the northernmost shore of Fremont Lake. Fire danger for the Forest remains Very High, which means fires start easily and spread quickly.
