Early Voting
October 30, 2008
In Wyoming, any qualified elector may vote by absentee ballot prior to election day, which allows people to effectively vote early (however they don’t call it early voting). No reason is required. To absentee vote, go to the County Clerk’s office in the courthouse during normal business hours and pick up an absentee ballot. You’ll need a driver’s license or identification card. You may vote there and be done with it, or take the ballot home, fill it out, and bring it back later. Absentee ballots must be returned to the County Clerk’s office not later than 7 p.m. on Election Day, November 4th.
You may register and vote at the country clerk’s office prior to election day or at your polling place on election day. You can also register online via the Wyoming Voter Registration Application Form on the Secretary of State’s website at http://soswy.state.wy.us. If you have moved to a different precinct or changed your name, you should notify the County Clerk to make them aware of the changes. If you moved to a different county, you must re-register in that county. Again, bring your ID.
To vote, you must be a U.S. citizen and 18 years of age by General Election Day. You must be mentally competent and not have been convicted of a felony. You are already registered for 2008 if you voted in the Wyoming general election. If you are unsure if you are registered, call the Sublette County Clerk’s office at 307-367-4372.
In the voting booth, if you don’t want to vote for a particular office or item on the ballot, just skip that portion of the ballot. If you fail to vote on any Constitutional Amendment or Initiative, the result is the same as a vote against.
Election results will be broadcast on KPIN 101.1 FM Radio after the polls close on election day, Tuesday, November 4th as soon as they come available. Results will also be posted here on Pinedale Online. Candidate information is available in this week’s Pinedale Roundup and Sublette Examiner newspapers, and they will run in-depth election results in the Thursday, November 6th edition of their papers.
