Preparing for the role of Maria in ‘The Sound of Music’
by Janet Montgomery
November 10, 2008
In preparation for the role of Maria in the upcoming production of "The Sound of Music," Kim Buchanan headed to the Hair Outfitter in Pinedale to have Margie Nystrom put clips to her locks for a "Maria" do.
While Buchanan took the hair cut in stride, saying that she didn’t think it was a big deal, Nystrom said, "Any time I cut someone’s hair for the first time is a big deal."
Nystrom and the Hair Outfitter donated their services to give Buchanan her new look for her role on stage, which included an earlier beauty session with Buchanan in the chair for color and highlights by Sereena Reeser.
"The Sound of Music" has long been a favorite show of Nystrom’s, and she wanted to be Maria herself.
"But I didn’t have the voice for it," she quipped.
Buchanan said of "The Sound of Music," "It’s been my favorite show my whole life."
The two chatted about lines in the songs from the production as the scissors clipped and slid and chopped until the final styling revealed Buchanan with about six inches shorter in hair from when she walked in.
The actors are in rehearsals while the set is being constructed and costumes soon to arrive in these final weeks of preparation before the show goes up at the Pinedale High School Auditorium Nov. 20, 21 and 22 at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Cowboy Shop, and Office Outlet in Pinedale and at the Big Piney Branch of the Sublette County Library in Big Piney.
