Strong Winds expected Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a Significant Weather Advisory for strong winds for Sublette and Lincoln Counties. Very strong wind is expected to continue through Thursday evening. Sustained west to southwest wind of 30 mph to 40 mph with gusts as high as 55 mph will continue through the evening hours. The wind will rapidly diminish after midnight.
Residents in northern Sublette and northwestern Lincoln counties, including the locations of Star Valley rest area, Thayne, Freedom. Alpine, Grover and Turnerville should monitor the weather situation closely. Listen for possible high wind warnings and be prepared to take appropriate action should high winds occur. Report severe weather to the National Weather Service office in Riverton at 1-800-211-1448.
The National Weather Service has cancelled the Winter Storm Warning for the Wind River, Teton, Gros Ventre, Absoaroka mountains and Yellowstone National Park.
Snowfall has decreased or ended across most of the area late Thursday morning. Snow showers are still expected through the afternoon, especially over the higher mountains, but new snowfall will be light. Strong west winds will continue to blow any new snow around causing areas of reduced visibility but significant problems are no longer anticipated. Snowfall totals varied from just a trace in the lowest valleys of Yellowstone National Park to around a half a foot at some sites above 9000 feet.
