(Big Piney) – District Ranger Greg Clark of the Big Piney District on the Bridger-Teton National Forest has decided to extend the timeline for the draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) on the Eagle Prospect and Nobel Basin Master Development Plan project, also known as the Plains Exploration and Production Company or PXP proposal.
The DEIS is now planned for release by March of 2009. The DEIS was originally scheduled to be released in May of 2008. "We have had some technical issues with the air quality modeling and we also wanted to make sure we have some other concerns expressed by the public fully analyzed," said Clark. The scoping period on the Eagle Prospect DEIS closed February 7, 2008.
Issues raised during the scoping period included air quality concerns, wildlife issues, mitigation measures and a need to look at more alternatives. The proposal from PXP is to conduct drilling for oil and gas resources on the Bridger-Teton seven miles southeast of Bondurant. The analysis was expanded after a June 2007 request by PXP for the Forest to include a potential field development scenario or Master Development Plan (MDP) in the analysis. The draft EIS that was first provided to the public early in 2007 generated over 19,000 comments on the proposal.
