Golden eagles from more northern regions have migrated into
Wyoming for the winter, joining up with some resident birds
that do not leave the area. These birds of prey are attracted to carcasses of big game animals hit by vehicles on Sublette County roads and highways.

A pronghorn antelope buck carcass along Highway 351 attracted seven eagles Wednesday morning, including this golden that refused to give up the carcass, despite the presence of this photographer.

Claiming The outstretched wing is an aggressive posture demonstrating the bird's claiming of the carcass.	Balance This time, the wings are outstretched for balance as the bird moves around on the carcass.	Pull The eagle pulls back on the hide to get to the meat.
Not birds of a feather Magpies benefit from letting eagles open up carcasses, allowing the smaller beaked birds access to scavenging on their food sources.	On the Wing Look at how small the magpie's outstretched wings are compared to the golden eagle's wings.	Booted This pose demonstrates why goldens are called booted eagles.
