Green River Classic Sled Dog Race Jan. 3 & 4

The 2009 Green River Classic Sled Dog Race will be held Saturday & Sunday, January 3 & 4. There will be a 6-dog race and a 12-dog race. The Start/Finish is at parking area at Bridger-Teton National Forest parking lot on Hwy 352, 25 miles north of Cora. The race has a $8,600 purse, generously donated by BP.
Mushers are coming from Montana, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and South Dakota to participate in the race. There is a limit of twenty teams per class.
In addition to the adult race, there will be a special Junior Musher race for kids 12 years old or younger using a maximum of three sled dogs. That race will be 2-3 miles per day with a $250 purse.
The 6-dog class race is 14 miles/day and will have a dual start. Starting position for the first day will be determined at a drawing at the Musher’s meeting on Friday evening. The second day's starting positions shall be determined by the first day's times. The finishing list will be divided into two groups, with the fastest team in the faster group starting together with the fastest team in the slower group, followed by the fastest team in each group.
Race time is 9:00 am each morning. The 12-dog class with leave first, at two minute intervals. The 6-dog dual start will also leave at two-minute intervals. The Junior Class will leave at one minute intervals.
