Sublette County Ski and Snowboard Association – Season Opener
by Lisa Hornberger & Dari Quirk
January 6, 2009
The Sublette County Ski & Snowboard Association (SCSSA) took to the slopes Saturday and Sunday, January 3rd and 4th, at White Pine Ski Area & Resort for the first weekend of training for all club members. Despite cold temperatures, the excellent snow coverage and sunny skies provided a great start to the season. With over 70 athletes participating from throughout the county, the SCSSA offers a wonderful opportunity for kids to stay active over the winter, improve their skiing and snowboarding skills, and have a lot of fun!
The SCSSA would like to thank the Sublette County Recreation Board for the financial support they provide to the program. Without this funding, the program would not be possible. A large portion of the money provided by the Recreation Board goes to fund scholarships for athletes, and, on behalf of these athletes, the SCSSA thanks you. The SCSSA would also like to thank White Pine Ski Area & Resort for hosting the club again this year. One of the most important parts of the program is the coaching staff, and, again this season, the line-up is excellent. Jeff Wohl is the head alpine coach and Lat Straley is the assistant alpine coach. Assisting them this season are volunteer alpine coaches: Cassy Johnston, Ward and Natalie Wise, Bruce Carlson, Mike and Rena Looney, Emily Johnston, Doc Johnston, Tanna Jones, Jim and Dari Quirk, Jordan Vana, Rick Barrett, Janet Beiermann, Archie Kinch, and John Walter. The volunteer snowboard coaches this season include: Wednesday Escobar, Jeremiah Attanasio, Roger Bear, and Jason Pellegrini. The club is always in need of volunteer coaches. If you would like to find out more about coaching this season, please contact Cassy Johnston at 307-231-1176. In addition, many parents volunteer their time as support staff to assist with projects off the hill. Thank you to all of our coaches and volunteers – we couldn’t do it without you!
It is not too late to get involved with the club this season. For more information about the SCSSA including registration forms, team schedules, and scholarship applications, please visit our webpage, generously hosted by Pinedale Online! www.pinedale.com/clubs/skisnowboardclub.htm
