DEQ to increase air quality monitoring
For weekend of February 28 through March 1

(Upper Green River Basin) – On February 28 through March 1, 2009, contractors for the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Air Quality Division (AQD) will be increasing the level of air monitoring associated with the Winter Ozone Study in the Upper Green River Basin.
According to Dave Finley, AQD administrator, the increased monitoring is taking place in anticipation that AQD expects conditions to be right for formation of short-term higher than normal ozone levels in the Basin.
"The meteorological forecasts show the possibility of conditions that could lead to short-term elevated ozone levels," said Finley. "However, we do not expect to see 8 hour ozone levels exceeding the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) of 75 parts per billion (ppb). So no ozone advisory is being issued to the public."
Finley also mentioned that this weekend’s testing will include detailed measures of ozone precursors, formation rates, and how ozone levels change as measurements are taken at different heights above the ground. All of this data is being collected to allow AQD to develop accurate models of ozone formation in winter conditions in the Upper Green Basin.
