(Big Piney) – District Ranger Greg Clark of the Big Piney District on the Bridger-Teton National Forest has decided again to extend the timeline for the draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) on the Eagle Prospect and Nobel Basin Master Development Plan project, also known as the Plains Exploration and Production Company or PXP proposal. The DEIS is now planned for release by late spring/early summer, most likely the last part of May to the first part of June 2009. The DEIS was scheduled to be released in March of 2009. "We are making good progress on analyzing all the issues and want to make sure we take into account some developing issues, especially in the air and wildlife area," said Clark. The scoping period on the Eagle Prospect DEIS closed February 7, 2008.

Issues raised during the scoping period and meetings after scoping included air quality concerns, wildlife issues, mitigation measures and a need to look at more alternatives. In order to meet these issues, detail air modeling and additional environmental studies are near completion. The proposal from PXP is to conduct drilling for oil and gas resources on the Bridger-Teton seven miles southeast of Bondurant. The analysis was expanded after a June 2007 request by PXP for the Forest to include a potential field development scenario or Master Development Plan (MDP) in the analysis. "We expanded the analysis because PXP’s June 2007 request for a full development alternative was a substantial change in the proposed action we analyzed in the original DEIS," said Clark.
