VEHICLE CRASHES CLOSE ROADWAYS
(Rock Springs) – Motorists should be aware of two temporary road closures in western Wyoming due to crashes that have blocked roadways. Roadways in the area are icy and snowpacked, however, have been plowed and sanded by WYDOT.
Troopers are working on a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in the eastbound lanes of travel at mile post #78 or approximately 22 miles west of Rock Springs. The crash has required the closure of the eastbound side of the Interstate only. Traffic is able to bypass the crash site by using WYO 374. Eastbound motorists should exit at mile post #72, the Westvaco Interchange. They can re-enter the Interstate at mile post #83 or the LaBarge Interchange.
The crash at mile post #78 has totally blocked the eastbound lanes of the Interstate and involves an unknown number of semi trucks. There have been reported injuries in this crash. At this time there is no further information available. It is unknown when the eastbound lanes will reopen to normal traffic.
A second truck crash at the Junction of Interstate 80 and WYO 372 has temporarily closed WYO 372 due to a hazardous material spill of hot asphalt. This road closure only applies to WYO 372. This crash is approximately 13 miles west of Rock Springs.
Two semi tractor trailer units hauling hot asphalt have collided and Troopers have just arrived on scene. Initial reports are that approximately 10,000 gallons of hot asphalt have spilled onto the roadway. No reported injuries in this crash however, there is totally road blockage from the tractor trailer units and hot asphalt. It is unknown when the roadway will be reopened to normal traffic.
