2009 Aniel Daniel Chili Cookoff & Dessert Auction results

Congratulations to winners in the 28th Aniel Daniel Chili Cookoff and Dessert Auction! Number of chili entries: 19 red and 9 green, one more than in 2008. Judges were Emi Reilly, Scott Werbelow, Brad Teson, Brendan Ryan, Laurie Latta, and Steve Belinda. Each winner received an embroidered apron made by Nan at The Talking T-Shirt in Daniel and will receive a portion of the chili entry proceeds. The overall winner will additionally receive a Daniel cookbook.

Thirty-seven cakes, pies, brownies and fudge were donated for the dessert auction. Citizens and businesses sent desserts, including the Baymont Inn and Cafe on Pine.
The best decorated cake was a large chocolate cake decorated with a fish with an arrow in it made by Mandy Calhoun entitled "Death by Arrow". Mandy got a Daniel cookbook.
The dessert that raised the most money ($160) was a beautiful lemon cheesecake made by Julie Soderberg. David Stephens was the auctioneer. Budweiser, through the Green River Bar, donated the keg. The Big Piney school cafeteria ladies donated cookies for dessert. Many people contributed by buying desserts, such as First Bank, and community members made cornbread and salads and helped organize the event, including Josie Brown, Dorthy Siems, Nancy Wiebe, Lee Borgeson, Rollie Sparrowe, Mike Looney, Florence Beard, Brandi Mills, and Virginia Mika.
Over $2,500 was raised to benefit the Daniel Community Center.
