Enzi: budget is no joking matter

(Washington, D.C.) – As the U.S. Senate debates and amends the federal budget this week, U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., spoke on the Senate floor about the failed priorities in the Administration’s budget and how it will impact Wyoming residents.
"Today is April Fool’s Day and the biggest prank I’ve seen so far is the one proponents of this budget are trying to pull on the American taxpayer," said Enzi.
In his floor speech Enzi echoed the sentiments of Wyoming resident Diane Badget of Cowley, who noted in a recent column in the Lovell Chronicle that her mother always said, ‘If you don’t have enough money to buy a quart of milk you don’t take someone else’s hard-earned cash and buy ice cream.’ Enzi likened that quote to what is happening with the President’s budget that spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much.
The budget the Senate is debating would increase taxes on energy, small businesses, senior citizens and anyone making charitable contributions. The budget proposal would also reinstate the death tax which Enzi says is detrimental to Wyoming ranchers and farmers.
The Senate is expected to continuing amending the budget through Thursday and vote on final passage late Thursday evening.
