The Sublette County Commission held a special executive session Thursday, April 16, to discuss a personnel issue. Commission Chairman Bill Cramer said the session involved a hearing to consider a petition to remove the sheriff, Wayne "Bardy" Bardin. The county retained a hearing officer and court reporter for the session, but those who filed the petition failed to appear, although they were notified by certified mail of the hearing schedule. Cramer noted that that the complaint(s) originally filed is not evidence.

"The complaint needs to be supported by evidence and/or testimony under oath and subject to cross examination that is presented at the hearing," Cramer said. "Due to the absence of anyone in attendance in support of the complaint(s) the commission had no choice but to decide that removal of the sheriff was not appropriate."

Hearing the complaints from the petitioners was the whole purpose of the hearing, Cramer said. Based on the lack of evidence presented, and on the advice of legal council, the commission concluded that there was no basis for a decision to remove Sheriff Bardin from office.
