Tornadoes in Sublette County
by Dawn Ballou, Pinedale Online!
April 22, 2009
Sublette County typically experiences few tornadoes, although a couple have actually been recorded touching down and funnel clouds have been observed. Pictured at right is a funnel cloud observed on the Mesa south of Pinedale in 1997. This is the only image we are aware of for a tornado or funnel cloud in Sublette County. Photo by Chad Ripperger.
We did some quick online research and found a website that reported F1 and F0 tornadoes in Sublette County in 1975 and 1991. No one was killed or injured in those events. Funnel clouds often are not documented. Click on this link for a list of tornadoes that have occurred in Wyoming between 1950 and 1995 (source: tornadoproject.com).
