Winter Weather Advisory for Upper Green River Valley
Thunder, lightning, rain and then snow
April 8, 2009
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow for from midnight Wednesday, April 8 until 6:00 PM Thursday, April 9 for the Upper Green River Basin foothills. The advisory includes the Pinedale area.
A few thunderstorms will continue to race north across the Upper Green River basin Wednesday afternoon. The main hazard with these storms through 4:30 pm will be strong outflow wind gusts near 45 mph and occasional cloud-to-ground lightning. Expect sudden strong crosswind if traveling near any of these storms Wednesday afternoon. The storms will become increasingly moist later Wednesday afternoon, producing locally heavy snow showers with poor visibility.
Rain showers will develop by Wednesday evening and then turn over to snow by midnight and continue until at least midday Thursday before decreasing Thursday afternoon. Total snowfall of 3 to 5 inches is expected. Area roads may become snowpacked and icy, especially during heavier periods of snow.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
