Deadline approaching for Resident Elk, Deer And Antelope applications
by Wyoming Game & Fish
May 19, 2009
With the resident application deadline for limited quota elk, deer and antelope licenses coming up on June 1, the Game and Fish reminds hunters that applications must be received, not postmarked, at the Cheyenne Headquarters office by 5 p.m. on the deadline date.
The application deadline is normally May 31, but since May 31 this year is on a weekend, the Game and Fish will accept applications received on Monday, June 1.
License draw coordinator Aaron Pelto said applications are coming in steadily, and so far a big percentage of the applicants are using the online application process. Pelto said by applying online, hunters can eliminate the uncertainty of mailed applications getting in on time.
"In addition, accuracy is greatly improved with online applications," Pelto said.
Pelto said that online applications can be processed faster and require less manpower. "The online process has resulted in a substantial cost savings," Pelto said. "Not only does this cut down Game and Fish expenses to process the applications, it also expedites the timing of the drawings."
In addition, a hunter who may have applied for an area and then changed his mind on hunt area or license type selection can go into the Game and Fish Web site http://gf.state.wy.us and modify the application online up to 15 business days before the published tentative drawing date. This year, with the tentative drawing date of July 3, the last day applications can be modified is June 12.
Hunters should be aware that some areas have quota and season changes from previous years. The 2009 big game summary maps contain seasons and quotas for elk, deer and antelope and are now available at Game and Fish offices and license selling agents.
