(Pinedale) – In an effort to give local youth the opportunity to continue a higher education and expand Wyoming’s workforce, EnCana Oil and Gas (USA) Inc. awarded a scholarship to Luke Egle of Pinedale High School. Egle’s exceptional scholastic achievement, stalwart community involvement and commitment to work toward a career in the oil and gas industry has earned him $2,500 annually for up to four years, totaling $10,000 for his college education.
Egle plans to study Land Resource Management and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wyoming. A four-year honor roll student and leader on the football field, Egle’s strong character, inherent drive to succeed and ability to inspire his peers while leading the way, has allowed him to shine both in the classroom and on the field. A leader by example, his hard work and self-motivation alone, holds him to the highest esteem by his peers and teachers alike.
As an active member of his church’s high school youth group, Egle has played a big part in fundraisers, events and weekly activities. He serves his community with pride, and has helped move fire victims to their new homes, picked-up trash on the rodeo grounds and helped build a church.
Egle’s appreciation for the outdoors only enforced his decision to go into the oil and gas industry. " I chose to enter this field because it is an area that is in need of help, and I love the outdoors. I want to help make a difference in this industry," declared Egle.
EnCana’s four-year scholarship is awarded annually to one graduating student in each school district within an EnCana area of operation. The student must pursue a degree in engineering, geology or geophysics, or at a technical or trade program associated with the oil and gas industry, such as production technology, heavy equipment operator or land management.
"Luke’s determination, work ethic and self-discipline made him a very solid candidate for the scholarship," said Terry Bly, EnCana Jonah Field operations leader. "His ambition and energy prove his ability to succeed at anything he puts his mind to. We are proud and honored to award this scholarship to a well deserved, worthy student such as Luke."
EnCana awarded five scholarships across Wyoming this year. The scholarship is awarded directly to the student, and can be used for any college-related financial need, including tuition and fees, textbooks or rent.
